After graduating summa cum laude and obtaining his doctorate at the University of Zurich, he taught in Zurich and St. Gallen, spent time researching at the Max Planck Institute in Hamburg and took up his first legal positions as a district attorney. He has run his own law firm in Zurich since 1984.
